BIMA Hangouts | Protecting Mental Health in a Crisis Vol 3.0


This week, as lockdown 3 starts to take its toll, we'll share advice and tips on how can you protect your own and your team’s mental health.

In this third BIMA Hangouts session on Mental Health, our Inclusion and Diversity Council members - Dan Willis (Co-founder, Well Good), Ross Taylor (Founder at Hidden), Sophie Amono ( Founder, Stuffs) will continue answering your questions, and explore issues including:

  • How to spot signs of stress in others – and yourself
  • Employer responsibilities
  • Practical steps to improve your mental wellbeing
  • Techniques to survive the mental stress of self-isolation or lockdown

Dan Willis

Recognised within the BIMA100 as someone shaping the British digital industry, Dan has consistently delivered award winning brand and marketing strategies to global brand and charity clients. Dan leads Well Good’s growth and is Strategy Director for one of the South of England's first BCorp accredited digital agencies, Studio Republic. He is an influential mental health campaigner and Ambassador for the charity Mind, working to improve wellness provision in the workplace, particularly in the digital industry.

Ross Taylor



After 15 years in agency recruitment, Ross realised things needed to change. In June 2018, with co-founder Richard Bloom, Hidden was born to change the game. With the mission to create talent and culture strategies for a better working world, Hidden puts people at the centre of its decision making whilst providing a service that pushes Diversity. The business works with leading digital, creative and technology businesses from the inside; placing Talent Acquisition Partners onsite, building more Diverse and effective teams from within, all powered by Hidden’s unique mobile app which completely removes bias from the hiring process whilst increasing efficiency.

Alongside running Hidden, the business partners went on to found Pairents in April 2019, a job sharing platform that challenges the notoriously unwelcoming nature of the digital and tech industry to returning parents who require a more flexible way of working.

Ross is passionate about mental health and promoting the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Sophie Amono



Sophie is the founder of Edinburgh based social media agency Stuffs; a female-led creative studio that produces social media campaigns for brands across the UK and Europe. Over the last ten years her career has seen her work with some of the biggest brands in contemporary communications including Dazed Digital, Bulletproof, The Times, & NOT JUST A LABEL. Her path to agency ownership was born out a desire to fill the gap she saw in ethnic minority and female leadership within the creative industries – a path which has seen her now go on to grow a team of over 70 members of staff and influencers – and where her personal efforts are now focused on advocacy work with underrepresented groups. With recent partnerships and speaking spots with Ladies, Wine & Design in Scotland, Hidden Women in Design, and the European Packaging Design Awards, Sophie joins the BIMA Diversity & Inclusion Council with the vision to help drive impactful change for creatives in Scotland, women, and ethnic minorities within the media, digital and technology industry.

Deanne Walsh

HR Manager, Mando & Mental Health Consultant

Deanne joined Mando in Liverpool as HR Manager in 2016. She adores working for a business that truly have people at the heart of what they do. The team has grown in the last 12 months and she has enjoyed the challenge of remote onboarding along with supporting the team’s wellbeing and continued professional development during this time.

In 2018 reducing her hours with Mando it allowed her the time to start her mental health and wellbeing business, Dewa Consulting. Over the last two and a half years she has been working with business across the UK, promoting wellbeing and raising awareness around the support and prevention of mental ill health. She also works as an Associate Trainer for the mental health charities Mind and Chasing the Stigma.

With 30+ years in industry and a background is in Operations and HR Management, her qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in HR Management, she is a qualified Instructor for Mental Health First Aid England and a part-qualified person centred Counsellor. Over the last 3 years, she has volunteered as a Counsellor with Childline and Shout Crisis Text line.

She feels very fortunate to be able to improve people’s lives through both of her passions – people and mental health.
